The British newspaper "Daily Mail" reported a long list of people who died after undergoing cosmetic surgery in Turkey.
"Daily Mail" stated that there is a long list of patients who suffered severe disfigurements or infections after being lured to Turkey with extremely low prices for cosmetic surgeries, many of whom committed suicide shortly afterward.
The newspaper highlighted the story of a French student named Mathieu Figé Latour, 24, who committed suicide after undergoing a failed beard transplant surgery in Turkey last March.
It reported that the young man died three months after the operation, which cost him 1,300 euros, performed by a real estate agent disguised as a surgeon, leaving the young man in continuous pain and feeling that his face was irregularly shaped as the hair grew at an unnatural angle.
Additionally, "Daily Mail" talked about Jack Castel, a 24-year-old British man suffering from Asperger's syndrome and body dysmorphic disorder, who committed suicide after a cosmetic procedure he underwent in Istanbul.
Earlier, the Times reported that Castel had suffered from body dysmorphic disorder for years. In late 2022, he left to undergo a series of procedures including jaw reduction, chin reduction, lower facelift, nose reduction, hairline lowering, and eye widening.
The newspaper stated that the young man suffered from severe scarring and debilitating pain after the procedure, making him reliant on strong painkillers. In a letter to his father, he wrote: "I should have listened to you. I'm sorry for feeling like I made a terrible mistake."
The young man was found dead after overdosing on June 7. His father stated that his son was an easy target for clinics eager to sell a range of procedures as a solution to the issues present in his appearance.
"Daily Mail" circulated the story of a family destroyed by the results of such surgeries, reporting that the family of Leah Cambridge from Leeds, who died on the operating table during a Brazilian butt lift, experienced a double tragedy when her grieving father committed suicide following her death.
Cambridge was only 29 when she suffered a fatal blood clot during the Brazilian butt lift surgery, which cost 6,500 pounds in Turkey in 2018.
A BBL is a procedure in which fat is extracted from areas around the waist and injected into the buttocks to give a more curvy shape. However, Cambridge suffered fatal complications when this fat was mistakenly injected into a vein, causing her to have three heart attacks on the operating table and subsequently die.
However, the tragedy did not end there. Her father, Craig, 51, was found dead in his home in April 2021, having committed suicide after "breaking down" due to his daughter's death.
Last month, a British woman named Nina told the Times that she suffered from mental health issues due to a nose cosmetic procedure she underwent in Turkey, which made her feel "suicidal."
However, many clinics in Turkey register patients after exchanging messages via WhatsApp or Instagram, according to "Daily Mail."
According to the Turkish health authority USHAS, over 1.5 million people arrived in the country in 2023 for cosmetic surgery.
