Sources in Hamas in the Gaza Strip and beyond confirmed the ability of Yahya Sinwar to remain hidden so far, noting that he is still in contact with the movement's leadership inside and outside, coinciding with Israel's failure to locate him.
Sources told the London-based newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat" that "Sinwar is constantly informed about everything that is happening, especially regarding the ongoing negotiations. Every initiative presented is carefully studied, and he reflects on it, expresses his opinion, and consults with the movement's leadership through various means of communication," according to what was reported by the news agency "Ma'an."
The sources added that "he has communicated several times with the movement’s leadership abroad, especially during the decisive moments of the negotiations that have taken place recently. He also contacted the head of the political bureau of the movement, Ismail Haniyeh, after Israel targeted his sons, offering him condolences and supporting him. The sources did not clarify how this communication was established, whether it was direct or not."
The sources did not deny or confirm whether Sinwar actually survived any Israeli assassination attempts during the current war, nor whether any Israeli forces have approached his location, especially during the operation in Khan Younis.
The sources indicated that "a very small circle of no more than two or three people at most knows his location and secures his various needs, as well as ensures his communication with the movement's leadership inside and outside."
According to the same sources, "Israel has failed to reach many of the first and second line leadership at the political and military levels of Hamas, although attempts were made to assassinate some of them, and among them were those who were injured and those who survived and emerged safely from bombings in various areas and targets, but Sinwar is not among them."
The sources did not specify whether Sinwar is hiding above or below ground.
