The Ivey Business School has just released the Purchasing Managers' Index data for Canada for the month of September, which came in positive and higher than market expectations for the first time in two months.
According to the reported data, the Ivey Purchasing Managers' Index in Canada recorded about 53.1 points during September, which is higher than the expectations that indicated a reading of 50.3 points. The previous reading of the index was about 48.2 points during August.
It is worth noting that the PMI index issued by Ivey measures the level of activity of purchasing managers in Canada. This survey is conducted with around 175 purchasing managers, who assess business conditions including: employment, production, new orders, prices, and inventories.
If the index reading rises above the benchmark level of 50.0 points, it indicates growth in industrial activity; if it falls below this level, it indicates that industrial activity is contracting. This index is a joint project between the Canadian Purchasing Management Association and the Richard Ivey School of Business.
