Ottawa Hospital said the police are investigating the matter after a person was found pouring gasoline and unspecified anti-Semitic messages on the General Campus.

In an email, the hospital spokesman said they were found in a clinical area during Thursday night, and Ottawa police said in an email that officers were called around 11:15 p.m.

The hospital explained that the area is being cleaned, some appointments have been rescheduled, and security measures have been enhanced.

The statement said that the hospital administration "condemns this unfortunate act," which comes about a week after the Ottawa police chief condemned several recent hate-motivated crimes targeting Jews and Muslims.

Subsequently, a 29-year-old man was arrested and charged with various hate-motivated offenses. He is alleged to have made a threatening phone call to a rabbi in Ottawa, who said that hatred towards the Jewish people has "increased significantly" after the Hamas attack across the border on October 7, which ignited the recent war between Israel and Hamas.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau criticized what he described as a "terrifying" rise in anti-Semitism and Islamophobia across the country.

The General Campus hospital suffered a major fire late last month, leading to the closure of the emergency room and forcing dozens of patients to be transferred.
