The Ottawa Capital Police said they are investigating a murder on Valentine's Day after an 18-year-old man appeared at the hospital with a gunshot wound on Tuesday evening.
The police say the shooting occurred at the 1500 block of St. Laurent Boulevard, a few buildings southeast of Riverside St. and Industrial St.
The police also said that just before 7 p.m., they were called to the Ottawa Hospital downtown after a person arrived there with a gunshot wound. The hospital is located one kilometer south of the shooting scene.
The injured, Omar Al-Khalidi, died at the hospital, and the police say he did not arrive at the hospital alone.
Investigators remained at the scene Wednesday morning.
Officers appeared to focus on a vehicle in the parking lot of a residential complex.
Meanwhile, some residents in the area told local media that they did not hear anything unusual Tuesday evening.
The police are asking for the public's help and urge anyone with information to contact the homicide unit or Crime Stoppers.
It is worth mentioning that this is the third murder in Ottawa this year.
Meanwhile, the Arab community expressed their fear of such incidents and called for a review of their causes and efforts to address them.
