Former U.S. Ambassador to NATO Ivo Daalder highlighted the widespread concern in Europe regarding Washington's trade and foreign policy trends, saying: "I was amazed by the widespread concern about the United States, especially if public opinion polls predicting a Republican win were correct in the midterm elections."

The former ambassador added: "During meetings with representatives from the European Union, NATO, and other government agencies last week: "There are two reasons for the EU's concern regarding U.S. policy, about how the Biden administration competes with the Chinese battery industry and addresses climate change, and the possible end of U.S. support for Ukraine by the Republican Congress."

Cooperation brings solutions

The former ambassador explained that the ambiguity and uncertainty surrounding these issues represent a real concern, but he hopes the U.S. and the EU can work together to address them, saying: "The problems we face now, whether Russia, China, or climate change, can only be solved if the United States cooperates with its allies in Europe and Asia."
