Former US President Donald Trump said today, Saturday, that he expects to be "arrested" next Tuesday, following allegations of paying money to a porn star before the 2016 presidential election he won, and called on Americans to protest.
Trump wrote on his account on the "Truth Social" social platform that he owns, on the morning of Saturday, "The main Republican candidate and former President of the United States will be arrested on Tuesday. Protest! Take back our country!".
Trump spoke without providing evidence about "leaks" from the Manhattan District Attorney's office indicating that he will be arrested, without clarifying what charges will be filed against him.
Trump wrote, "Illegal leaks from the extremely corrupt and politicized Manhattan District Attorney's office... indicate that, without the possibility of proving any crime... the main Republican candidate and former President of the United States will be arrested next Tuesday."
The Manhattan District Attorney's office did not immediately respond to press requests to comment on Trump's statements.
Earlier this year, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg had begun presenting evidence to a grand jury investigating Michael Cohen, the former attorney and personal aide to Donald Trump, paying $130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels in the final days of Trump's 2016 campaign.
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, says she had a relationship with Trump, which the former US President denies.
