The European Seismological Center announced today, Saturday, March 18, 2023, the recording of an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 in the city of Kahramanmaraş in southeastern Turkey.
The observatory said the earthquake was recorded 4 kilometers southeast of the city of Göksun, at a depth of two kilometers. There have been no reports of possible material or human losses.
Earthquakes of magnitudes 7.7 and 7.6 occurred on February 6 nine hours apart, in Kahramanmaraş province in southeastern Turkey.
Residents felt the earthquake in 11 provinces in the country and neighboring countries, including Syria. Turkish authorities described the earthquake as the "disaster of the century," with nearly 48,000 people dying and leaving huge destruction.
