U.S. President Joe Biden arrives this Thursday evening in the Canadian capital Ottawa, on his first official visit to Canada since assuming the presidency in January 2021.
According to news reports, this visit, accompanied by the First Lady Jill Biden, extends over two days during which the U.S. president is scheduled to deliver a speech in the Canadian Parliament.
The agenda for Biden's visit to Canada is expected to focus on discussing with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ways to intensify cooperation between the United States and Canada in the fields of defense, security, climate, and immigration. The talks between the two leaders are also expected to revolve around ongoing support for Ukraine, especially since the White House considers Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau one of the United States' top allies in providing military and financial aid to Ukraine; in addition to discussing strengthening the joint continental air defense network known as NORAD, particularly after the crisis of the Chinese balloon that flew over the United States coming from Canada.
On another front, the two countries believe that the presidential visit will provide an opportunity to strengthen economic ties between them, especially concerning the clean economy.
