Neuralink, a company owned by Elon Musk, has received approval from Health Canada to begin its first clinical trial for implanting a brain chip in the country. The trial will be conducted at Toronto Western Hospital, part of the University Health Network (UHN), which will be the exclusive center for this trial in Canada.

Trial Details:

• The trial targets patients suffering from quadriplegia due to conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or spinal cord injuries.

• The chip aims to enable patients to control external devices, such as computers, using neural signals from the brain.

• This development follows the company's success in implanting the chip in the first human patient in the United States earlier this year.

Project Significance:

• This step represents a significant expansion for Neuralink outside the United States, bolstering Elon Musk's ambitions to develop brain interfaces that can improve the quality of life for individuals with severe disabilities.

• In the long term, Neuralink plans to use the technology to treat diseases such as blindness, as well as to enhance memory in healthy individuals.

To register for the trial, the company has opened applications on its website and invited eligible individuals to join the patient list.
