Egyptian official media reported that around 35 people died and dozens were injured today Saturday, in a collision between several cars in the Beheira Governorate, about 132 kilometers north of the capital, Cairo.
The government newspaper Al-Ahram reported that "a horrific collision on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, near the city of Wadi El-Natroun, resulted in the death of 35 people and the injury of more than 53 others."
It also clarified that "photos from the scene of the accident indicate that a large number of bodies are charred, due to the outbreak of fire in many vehicles involved in the accident."
Videos of the incident circulated on social media showed horrific scenes of flames erupting from several cars and a bus being charred, amid cries for help and people rushing to try to extinguish the flames and assist the injured.
For its part, the Egyptian Ministry of Health stated in a statement that "20 ambulances were dispatched to assist the injured in the traffic accident."
