South Ontario is expected to experience a wave of winter weather on Tuesday, with forecasts indicating icy conditions and snowfall reaching up to 15 cm.

Environment and Climate Change Canada expects snow and freezing rain measuring between 10 and 15 cm from Owen Sound to Siderham, Ontario, extending north to Bracebridge.

In the Greater Toronto Area, special weather statements have already been issued calling for "heavy snowfall with a risk of freezing rain" in Caledon, Newmarket, Georgina, and Uxbridge.

The statement said that snow associated with a major winter storm is expected to move into parts of southern Ontario on Tuesday. "Travel conditions are likely to be difficult, especially late Tuesday night and Tuesday."

The national meteorological agency also predicted rain and strong winds until Tuesday evening.

As the week progresses, chaotic weather is expected to continue until Wednesday, with Environment Canada forecasting rainfall and a temperature rise approaching 4 degrees Celsius, and on Thursday, winds return to the forecast with temperatures expected to drop to the freezing mark.

The city witnessed its first major snowfall of the year over the weekend when residents woke up to an accumulation of about five centimeters of snow.
