The festive atmosphere of the Canadian Embassy in Cairo reflected the National Day, with Ambassador “Louis Douma” showcasing his strong passion for ice hockey—the most popular sport in Canada. Meanwhile, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, jokingly asked “Douma” if she was unsure whether he would return to Canada for retirement or to start a new job in ice hockey training.

In a video shown during the celebration, “Douma” and Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, Egypt’s Ambassador to Canada, discussed the distinguished relations between the two countries, noting that this year marks the seventieth anniversary of Egyptian-Canadian friendship. Over the years, the political and commercial relations between the two countries have strengthened, as well as in the field of education, where there are several Canadian schools and universities in Egypt, emphasizing that education is one of the main pillars supporting the relations between the two countries.

In his speech, the ambassador stated that the relations between the two countries are based on friendship and peace. Lester B. Pearson, the Canadian Prime Minister, was the one who resolved the Suez Canal crisis by organizing the United Nations Emergency Force and received the Nobel Prize in 1957.

He also thanked the student Arwa Al-Bashir from Al-Ahram Canadian University for designing the logo for the celebration of 70 years of Canadian-Egyptian friendship.
