The authorities in eastern Libya have postponed the "international" conference for the reconstruction of the city of Derna, which was devastated by floods last September 10, to early November.
The preparatory committee stated in a statement on Sunday that the conference, which was scheduled to be held on October 10, has been postponed for logistical reasons and to give companies "the necessary time to submit studies and effective projects that will contribute to the reconstruction process."
It also clarified that it will now be held on the first and second of November in the cities of Derna and Benghazi.
This postponement was made at the request of the municipalities in the affected cities and areas and several global companies wishing to participate, as explained by the head of the committee, Saker Al-Jibani.
Despite not being internationally recognized, the government based in eastern Libya initially invited the "international community" to participate in the conference proceedings.
However, it seems that they have reduced their hopes this week, indicating that the meeting will be "open only to international and Libyan companies."
The floods caused by Hurricane Daniel, which were exacerbated by the collapse of the Derna dams, have resulted in the deaths of 3,893 people, according to an unofficial toll from the government in eastern Libya.
