The earth moved in eastern Ontario and western Quebec on Thursday morning.
The Canadian Seismic Authority reported an earthquake of magnitude 3.7 at 7:37 AM in Quebec, 40 km northeast of Cornwall and southeast of Valleyfield, QC.
Chris Boutcher, a seismic analyst at the Ministry of Natural Resources, explained that it is not uncommon for the Ottawa-Saint Lawrence Valley area to experience two or three earthquakes of this magnitude annually.
There are no reports of damage.
The United States Geological Survey also reported an earthquake of magnitude 3.2 located 7 km northwest of Huntingdon, QC.
Residents of the southern end of Ottawa, Embrun, and Cornwall reported feeling the earthquake, according to the Canadian Earthquake website.
