Teachers in Saskatchewan have announced the start of organizing strikes and protests despite the harsh weather and severe cold with temperatures reaching –30 degrees Celsius.
The strike announced by Saskatchewan teachers will be a one-day march, as an expression of their objection to certain conditions, aiming to pressure the province to respond by expanding contract negotiations to include a large number of elements.
The march organizers pointed out that they have identified all aspects of their objection in their conditions, including even classroom spaces and their complexity.
Samantha Picotte, head of the STF union representing the teachers, stated that we hope our message reaches the government and that it returns to negotiations and discussions, and commits to a number of obligations concerning issues important to teachers and students throughout the province.
It is noteworthy that the Saskatchewan Teachers' Union announced the strike last week
and called on the government to consider several matters, including providing support for students, especially those with special needs, as well as discussing the number of students in each classroom.
