Ottawa - Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner said she hopes her bill to help develop the cryptocurrency sector will make Canadian legislators talk about it in a non-partisan way.
The private member's bill introduced by the MP in February, which is scheduled to be discussed in the House of Commons tonight, would force the government to develop a plan for crypto asset groups within three years.
For his part, Pierre Poilievre, who is vying for the leadership of the Conservative Party, said last week that digital currencies could help Canadians "escape inflation" and promised to make the country more accepting of these currencies.
Cryptocurrencies received significant attention during the "Freedom Convoy" protests across the country in January, when protest leaders turned to (Bitcoin) as a funding option after being banned from using crowdfunding sites.
University of Calgary economist Trevor Tombe says buying cryptocurrencies does not isolate anyone from price changes and inflation.
