Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson hints at raising the minimum wage. In a meeting with senior officials, Stefanson said Manitoba has fallen behind other provinces and will take steps to address that.
Stefanson did not go into details, but her Progressive Conservative government has filed a notice of a minimum wage bill that will be introduced to the legislature early Monday.
Saskatchewan recently announced an increase in the minimum wage this fall, which would leave Manitoba with the lowest minimum wage in the country.
Manitoba currently increases the minimum wage every year in line with inflation, and it is currently set to rise to $12.35 per hour in October.
Saskatchewan is raising its minimum to $13 per hour this fall and to $15 in 2024.
