Great concerns are gripping economies and experts about the Canadian dollar's value dropping to half against the US dollar, due to the economic weakness witnessed by the Canadian economy in recent years.

One investment expert stated that the Canadian dollar could fall to 50 US cents in the long term if Canada does not address its issues related to inflation and affordability.

Jean François Tardif, the founder of an investment company, added in an interview with Timelo Investment Management BNN Bloomberg that a drastic drop in the value of the Canadian currency will not happen overnight, but it could decline more slowly if certain trends do not reverse.

He also mentioned that if this is not the case, the Canadian dollar could easily drop to 50 US cents.

Tardif stated: "We have a housing affordability problem here in Canada, along with wage pressures, and the price of everything has risen, so residents will demand higher wages, which leads to increasing inflation rates, and higher inflation means that the economy is not functioning well."

He also emphasized that economic weakness will mean less interest from foreign investors, which could impact the Canadian dollar.
