Nissan Canada warned about a defect in the airbag affecting more than 48,000 vehicles, including older SUVs dating back to the 2002 model year, which have been recalled, after preparing for the company's campaign regarding defective Takata airbags.
Nissan has urged drivers of 2002 QX4, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, and 2002-2006 Sentra vehicles to stop driving them and contact Nissan for a free repair.
Takata airbags contain a propellant that absorbs calcium sulfate
which may degrade after prolonged exposure to humidity and high temperatures, potentially causing rupture during deployment.
It is worth noting that in December, Ford Motor issued a similar recall; for the safety of 275,000 vehicles in Canada, warning of the risks of airbag rupture.
