The pressure on Canada's healthcare system during the COVID-19 pandemic has shown no sign of easing, and now the top official at the Canadian Medical Association warns that things may actually get worse.
Dr. Catherine Smart, Chair of the Board of Directors, told CTV News Power Play on Tuesday: "What is coming is clearly the collapse of the current healthcare system." "We do not see the political will to take this seriously."
Smart warns that "pressure across the system" is tough, with a swelling surgical backlog, ongoing challenges with primary care, and emergency rooms overwhelmed by an increasing backlog of patients. "There doesn't seem to be any solutions on the near horizon, which is really concerning."
