The German Nutrition Society recommended that people who suffer from high levels of bad cholesterol in the blood avoid consuming certain types of foods.
This includes foods that contain a high proportion of saturated fatty acids, which are mainly found in animal foods such as butter, cheese, cream, meat, sausages, and in a few plant products like coconut and palm fat.
The society added that one should also avoid so-called trans fats, which are manufactured from oils, and are mainly found in ready-made foods and fast meals.
The society recommended consuming foods that help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) by increasing good cholesterol (HDL), such as foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids like marine fish such as salmon, tuna, and herring.
Also foods rich in dietary fibers such as vegetables, fruits, whole grain products, nuts, and oat flakes, in addition to low-fat dairy products and lean meats.
It is worth mentioning that high levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes.
