The Canadian Public Health Agency said one person died following an outbreak of Salmonella linked to Malicita and Rudy melons.

The agency's update published on Friday did not provide any details about the deceased person, but it said there are 63 confirmed cases of Salmonella linked to the outbreak, and seventeen people have been hospitalized.

The agency also issued food recalls three times in November for Malicita melons sold between October 11 and November 14.

On November 24, it updated its warning to include Rudy brand melons sold between October 10 and November 24.

The melons were distributed nationwide, and the agency said confirmed Salmonella cases have been identified in five provinces so far: Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island.

It said it is investigating other potential cases and noted that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are also investigating a Salmonella outbreak linked to melons that they describe as the same genetic strain found in Canada. U.S. health officials said two people have died and 45 have been hospitalized across the country due to the outbreak as of Friday.
