Winter weather travel warnings remain in effect in Toronto and much of southern Ontario today with heavy snowfall expected later this morning.

Warnings have been issued for most areas of the GTHA, including Toronto, Pickering, Oshawa, the southern Durham region, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Burlington, Oakville, Halton Hills, Milton, and Hamilton.

Total accumulations of five to 10 centimeters are expected on Tuesday, according to Environment Canada.

The National Weather Agency said the snow, which was heavy at times, will continue throughout the day before tapering off to periods of light snow this evening.

Confirming that "it may become difficult to travel on surfaces such as highways, roads, driveways, and parking lots due to snow accumulation."

Environment Canada added that during peak times, affected areas may experience snowfall rates ranging from one to two centimeters per hour.

The city can also see snowfall ranging from four to eight centimeters today with temperatures reaching up to 0 degrees Celsius.

The snowfall comes ahead of milder temperatures expected later this week. Maximum temperatures during the day are expected to reach 4 degrees Celsius in Toronto on Wednesday, along with 8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, and 7 degrees Celsius on Friday.

The city will see a return to seasonal temperatures next Sunday.
