Canadians Eliot Grondin and Meryeta O'Dine won the bronze medal in the mixed team snowboard cross at the Beijing Olympics.
With this win, Canada has secured a place on the inaugural Olympic podium for a mixed team on snow.
It is the second medal for both Grondin and O’Dine at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Grondin, from Saint-Romuald, QC, won the silver medal in the men's skiing while O'Dine, from Prince George, British Columbia, earned the bronze medal in the women's snowboarding.
This is the first time a mixed event has been competed in the Olympic Games.
It features a two-person relay race consisting of one male and one female competitor per team, where each race begins with four racers from different teams leaving the gates simultaneously.
When the first border of the track is crossed, the team members prepare themselves at the top of the hill, where the male teammates go first, and once their official times are recorded, the female racers will be released from the start gate at corresponding staggered times.
The winner is the first team to have both competitors cross the finish line, except for contact violations and/or disqualification.
