Canada is witnessing a state of concern due to the high usage of TikTok by citizens, which exposes their data to use by the Chinese government. The Canadian Security Agency is trying to dissuade Canadians from using TikTok by informing users that their data is "available to the Chinese government."

In an interview with CBC News, David Vigneault, the head of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, stated that there is a very clear strategy from the Chinese government to obtain personal information from around the world, as reported by CBC.

Vigneault added: "They are using big data analytics, and they have amazing data farms processing the data, and they are developing artificial intelligence based on the use of this data."

Furthermore, the Chinese government's ability to access user data is one of the goals of U.S. efforts to regulate the app and possibly even ban it. Congress has approved a bill that would ban TikTok unless it divests from its parent company, ByteDance, based in Beijing.

TikTok filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government regarding the law in May, arguing that the impending ban is unconstitutional.

TikTok has previously claimed that employees in China are unable to access data from American and European users, and the company has made huge efforts to restructure the company, Project Texas and Project Clover, referring to the U.S. and European endeavors, respectively, to isolate user data from China.

User data for American users is hosted on Oracle's cloud infrastructure and is not supposed to be accessible by anyone outside the United States, although a recent report from Fortune magazine suggests that the efforts to secure American user data have been "largely cosmetic."

Daniel Morgan, a spokesperson for TikTok, told The Verge: "These claims are unsubstantiated, and the reality is that TikTok has never shared Canadian user data with the Chinese government."
