New Democratic MP Alistair MacGregor has expressed his dissatisfaction with grocery companies' plans to stabilize food prices. MacGregor is also a critic of agriculture in the New Democratic Party.

It is worth noting that during September, the government held a meeting with the heads of Loblaws, Sobeys, Metro, Costco, and Walmart where these companies were asked to present a plan to stabilize prices by Thanksgiving.

The cost of groceries purchased from stores in August was 6.9% higher than last year.

Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne also announced that major companies including Loblaws, Metro, Costco, and Walmart have shared plans to address rising prices, including campaigns such as discounts, price freezes, and price matching.

MacGregor said that grocery stores agreed to share the plans with members of the Agriculture Committee in the House of Commons, and in return, the committee promised to keep their contents confidential. However, the MP said the plans contained a lot of information that was already public.

MacGregor also said: "I can tell you that after reviewing the documents over the past two weeks, I was not impressed.

MacGregor said much of the information in these alleged secret documents can be found through a Google search.

It is noteworthy that Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said that there is a need for more competition in the country's grocery sector.
