Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly renewed today, Tuesday, the federal government's opposition to the Israeli military operation in Palestinian Rafah, calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Joly described the situation in Gaza as "catastrophic," urging the need to stop acts of violence and release hostages in order to begin a ceasefire.
She stated, "The invasion of Rafah will endanger the lives of civilians, children, and women, which is unacceptable," noting that Canada continues to pressure Israeli officials and work with allies in the region for a ceasefire.
The Canadian Foreign Minister added, "We have followed the negotiations, which are very smooth, and we hope they will be fruitful," simultaneously stressing the need to halt the Israeli military operation in Rafah and reach a ceasefire.
