Pablo Rodriguez, Canadian Heritage Minister, criticized yesterday Tuesday ''some media and some political parties'' in Quebec that see immigration as a ''threat.''

This statement came from Minister Rodriguez, who is responsible for the Quebec province in Justin Trudeau's government, during the announcement of an investment in immigrant furnace in front of a group of officials from organizations working in the field of immigration.

He said, ''What I see here is the future of Quebec, and what I see here is the future of Canada. What I do not see is a threat to the province of Quebec. What I do not see is a threat to Canada.''

Without naming anyone, he added that he does not like ''part of the discourse about immigration promoted by some media and some political parties. This does not align with who we are as a society. I find this sad because it attacks thousands of people who came here to contribute to our society. I believe this is fundamentally unacceptable.''

The minister called on people to stop distinguishing between ''us'' and ''you.'' He reminded that immigration is not just a series of statistics and percentages but is ''real people who belong here as soon as they arrive here.''

The minister continued his speech saying: ''When does an immigrant stop being an immigrant?'' giving an example with his family.

He added that this negative discourse must ''stop because it is hurtful. There are children who say: what did I do to be pointed at? What did my father or mother do?''

Pablo Rodriguez said: ''When my parents arrived here, both were university graduates. Their degrees were not recognized. They worked in house cleaning, and they did not know this work! They had their degrees equated. My father completed his doctorate at the age of fifty and both became professors at the University of Sherbrooke.''
