Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said today, Wednesday, that her country supports a permanent ceasefire in Gaza in a shift in Ottawa's position, which previously supported humanitarian truces in Gaza but never called for a ceasefire.
Joly also confirmed in a statement on her account on the (X) platform: "Canada supports efforts aimed at a sustainable ceasefire, which cannot be one-sided."
She also added: "Hostages must be released, foreign nationals, including Canadians, must be able to leave Gaza, more aid must enter, and Hamas must lay down its arms."
