U.S. Attorney Merrick Garland announced yesterday, Friday, the arrest of a 20-year-old man in Canada, suspected of planning a terrorist attack on a Jewish center in New York City.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced the arrest of Muhammad Shahzaib Khan, also known as Shahzaib Jadon, a Pakistani resident in Canada, on Wednesday, after a complaint was made in the Southern District of New York.

Garland stated, “The defendant planned to carry out a terrorist attack in New York City, close to October 7 of this year, with the declared goal of slaughtering as many Jews as possible, in the name of ISIS.”

It is noted that on October 7, last year, gunmen from Hamas and armed Palestinian organizations carried out an attack in southern Israel, killing more than 1,200 people and holding 250 other hostages in the Gaza Strip.

U.S. authorities allege that Khan attempted to travel to New York to carry out a mass shooting with automatic and semi-automatic weapons at a Jewish center in the Brooklyn neighborhood.
