A firefighting member lost his life in Canada while combating the massive wildfires sweeping the country, as announced by the Premier of British Columbia yesterday, Saturday.

This is the fourth death during firefighting efforts in the devastating wildfire season the country is experiencing.

Earlier this month, a helicopter pilot lost his life in a crash in Alberta in the west of the country while fighting the wildfires, following the deaths of two other firefighters in separate incidents.

The Premier of British Columbia stated in a statement, "I am shocked to hear that we have lost another firefighter," expressing his condolences for the "horrific news" and the "extremely horrific" wildfire season.

He added that "this tragic news reminds us once again of the extraordinary sacrifices made by firefighters to ensure our safety."

The victim was a contracted firefighter responding to wildfires in Doney Creek near Fort Saint John in the northeast of the province.

British Columbia currently has 368 active wildfires.

In total, more than 990 wildfires are sweeping across Canada, including 613 that are out of control.

The fires have consumed more than 12 million hectares this year, a total figure much higher than the country has seen in this regard before.

Canada, which is warming faster than the rest of the world due to its geographical location, has faced severe weather phenomena in recent years that have intensified and increased in frequency due to climate change.
