Hundreds of Palestine-supporting protesters flowed into the streets of downtown Toronto, Canada, marching towards the Israeli consulate in Toronto amid escalating military operations between Palestinian factions and Israel.
The protesters gathered in Nathan Phillips Square, in front of Toronto City Hall, with many of them wrapped in or waving Palestinian flags, while the crowd chanted, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," and one of the signs read: "Occupation is a crime, and resistance is a response."
As hundreds of Palestinians gathered in the downtown area, a number of pro-Israel protesters were present, with the police setting up barriers around them using bicycles.
Speakers at the rally affirmed that they did not come to spread hatred against Jews, but to defend the Palestinians' right to freedom.
Hours before the protest, Canadian Deputy Police Chief Lauren Pogue warned the public that there would be no tolerance for violence or hate crimes.
Politicians and police forces in the Canadian cities of Winnipeg and Vancouver made similar statements before the demonstrations in their cities, as thousands of supporters for Palestine and opponents of Israeli policies poured into the streets across Canada.
The Palestinian event in Toronto continued despite opposition from many local council members and the city's mayor, Olivia Chow.
