The campaign to re-elect U.S. President Joe Biden and the Democratic National Committee announced raising $264 million in the second quarter of the year, an impressive amount that may help assuage concerns within their party over the shaky performance in last week's debate.

The total amount announced today, Tuesday, includes $127 million raised during the month of June alone, as the campaign claims it brought in more than $33 million on debate day and in its aftermath. Biden also has $240 million in cash on hand, exceeding the $212 million announced last month.

Biden's campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, described these numbers as "testimony to the committed and growing base of supporters who stand firmly behind the president."

The announced totals come as Biden's campaign continues to scramble to calm the panic among some Democrats, who questioned whether the president could win in November after a debate in which he seemed rough and sluggish and at times gave convoluted answers, with some senior campaign leaders making numerous calls since the debate urging donors and key surrogates to be patient.

However, campaign officials insist there has been no discussion "whatsoever" about Biden exiting the race or about any staffing changes.

Former President Donald Trump, who is scheduled to accept the Republican Party's presidential nomination at the party's convention this month in Milwaukee, has not announced the total fundraising for his campaign and affiliated entities. A spokesperson said they will relay that "when we're ready."

Biden has a significant fundraising advantage over Trump in the early stages of the race, but the former president has narrowed the gap recently.

In April, which was included in the total second-quarter figures announced on Tuesday, Biden and the Democratic National Committee reported raising more than $51 million. This was far less than the $76 million that Trump and the Republican Party reported receiving that month.

Trump also reported raising $141 million in May, bolstered by tens of millions of dollars in contributions that flowed in after Trump's conviction in his criminal trial related to hush-money accusations.

The latest quarterly total for Biden was bolstered by an appealing fundraising event in June in Los Angeles, which he held with stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts and former President Barack Obama. This event raised over $30 million, a record amount for a Democratic candidate.

The president's campaign said that nearly half of the donations received after the debate came from first-time donors. It noted that 95% of total donations in the second quarter were under $200, and over 1.5 million donors made more than 2.8 million contributions.

The campaign stated that it now has a donor base of 314,000, or nearly 100,000 more than it had at the end of the first quarter of 2024 in March.

Biden's campaign has used its funds to help open more than 200 campaign offices in battleground states working with state Democratic parties, employing more than 1,000 staff. Biden's team stated that after the debate last weekend, the campaign organized 1,500 events across the battlegrounds.

Jamie Harrison, chair of the Democratic National Committee, said, "Grassroots donors across the country are giving every day because they know this election will determine the course of history."
