The storm of rain and winds that hit the eastern part of the country on Monday caused power outages for thousands in the Atlantic provinces.

At the peak of the outages, on Tuesday morning, more than 175,000 homes in the Atlantic were affected.

Also, around 3:15 PM today, the power outage was still affecting nearly 115,000 homes in the four provinces:

New Brunswick: 83269

Nova Scotia: 28857

Prince Edward Island: 32

Newfoundland and Labrador: 2520

In New Brunswick, trees and power lines fell onto the roads. The most affected areas are Carleton and Charlotte counties in the southwest of the province.

But the entire province was affected, and there are outages and damages everywhere, said Nicole Bourgeois, Vice President of Operations at NB Power, during a press conference held by authorities Tuesday afternoon.

NB Power was unable to determine whether power would be restored everywhere before Christmas. Crown Corporation said 600 people are involved in recovery efforts, but customers can expect prolonged power outages.

Meanwhile, the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization reminded residents to stay away from downed power lines, as many lines are down, said Kyle Levitt, director of the EMO in the province.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police also reported dangerous road conditions in Nova Scotia on their X account, where a power line fell overnight on Highway 1 in the Methgan area, causing the road to be closed for several hours.
