The leader of the Democrats in the U.S. Senate, Chuck Schumer, announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told members of Congress that Ukraine would face defeat if it does not receive new assistance from Washington.
Schumer stated, "There was one sentence that summarized everything, and I quote it literally. Zelensky said, 'If we do not receive help, we will lose the conflict.'
A group of U.S. Congress members previously opposed President Joe Biden's administration's request to allocate $24 billion to assist Kyiv until it is clarified how the previously allocated funds to Ukraine were spent and what goals Washington seeks to achieve.
NATO's military committee chairman Rob Bauer acknowledged that Ukraine's requests for weapons and ammunition, as well as the scale of defense products used in Ukraine, exceed the alliance's capabilities.
Western countries, led by the United States, have been providing military assistance to Ukraine since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine in February 2022, with assistance evolving from sending artillery munitions and training Ukrainian military personnel to supplying Kyiv with heavy weapons since late 2022.
