The American "CNN" network reported that an American official said Washington has temporarily halted a shipment of bombs to Israel amid concerns about the potential use of these bombs in the incursion of Israeli forces in Rafah.
The halted shipment, which was stopped last week, includes 1,800 bombs weighing 2,000 pounds and 1,700 bombs weighing 500 pounds.
The American official added, "We are particularly focused on the end use of the bombs weighing 2,000 pounds and the impact they could have in densely populated urban areas, as we have seen in other parts of Gaza," according to what "CNN" reported.
CNN had reported last weekend that a shipment of ammunition to Israel had been temporarily halted, but the reason was not clear.
It is worth mentioning that Israeli leaders have confirmed for weeks that the Rafah incursion would occur at some point in the future, although the United States and others have publicly stated that such a ground operation should not take place.
The administration of President Joe Biden has called for a comprehensive plan to protect more than one million civilians who have fled to Rafah and to avoid the expansion of the humanitarian disaster unfolding in the coastal enclave.
The Israeli occupation army announced on Tuesday morning the "operational control" over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing.
Egypt has condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah, resulting in Israeli control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing.
Egypt, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, deemed this serious escalation a threat to the lives of more than one million Palestinians who rely fundamentally on this crossing as the main lifeline for the Gaza Strip, the safe outlet for the wounded and sick to receive treatment, and for the entry of humanitarian and relief aid to their Palestinian brothers in Gaza.
Egypt called on the Israeli side to exercise maximum restraint and to refrain from the brinkmanship policy with far-reaching consequences, which would threaten the fate of the strenuous efforts being made to reach a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The "Cairo" news channel quoted a senior Egyptian source as saying, "Efforts continue to stop the escalation between the two sides," adding, "The Egyptian security delegation warned its Israeli counterparts of the consequences of storming the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side and requested an immediate halt to this movement."
Additionally, the Palestinian Authority has demanded the United States "to intervene immediately to prevent the Israeli occupation authorities from invading Rafah and displacing the Palestinians from it," while Hamas considered in a statement that the Israeli incursion confirms "the occupation's intent to disrupt mediation efforts to stop the fire," according to Reuters news agency.
