The U.S. Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines said yesterday, Tuesday, that Iran "is trying to secretly inflame protests in the United States regarding the war in Gaza, and in some cases, provides financial support to the demonstrators."
Haines added in a statement: "I want to be clear that I know Americans participating in the protests are, in good faith, expressing their views on the conflict in Gaza, and this intelligence does not suggest otherwise," according to CNN.
She continued: "Americans who are targeted by this Iranian campaign may not realize they are interacting with a foreign government or receiving support from it."
She stated: "We urge all Americans to remain vigilant while engaging online with accounts and actors they do not personally know."
The CNN network previously reported that "agents working for the Iranian government also created fake content generated by artificial intelligence as part of a campaign to influence American voters in the final weeks of the 2020 campaign."
