Al Ahly won its thirty-eighth title of the Egypt Cup in football, by defeating Pyramids 2-1 after extra time (1-1 in regular time) in the final of the 90th edition of the competition at Cairo Stadium.

Pyramids opened the scoring in the 72nd minute of the match through the Moroccan Walid El Karti, before Mahmoud Abdel Moneim (Kahraba) equalized for Al Ahly two minutes later (74).

After the end of regular time in a draw, the two teams resorted to two extra halves, in which the upper hand was for the "Red Castle" team, which secured the title with Hamdi Fathi’s header in the 104th minute.

The match witnessed the sending off of Mohamed Abdel Moneim, Al Ahly defender, in the 116th minute with a direct red card for his off-the-ball tackle on Tunisian Fakhr Eldin Ben Youssef.

With this victory, Al Ahly regained the title, as runner-up of the last edition (2021) and holder of the record for the most wins, the title it lost in the last edition to its traditional rival Zamalek in July 2022, and prevented Pyramids from achieving the first title in the club’s history.

This is the second time Pyramids finish as runner-up after 2019, when they lost to Zamalek by three goals to none.
