An 18-year-old man is accused of kidnapping a child and sexually assaulting him in Gatineau.

Gatineau police stated that an 18-year-old man has been arrested following a report of sexual assault.

The police were called Thursday evening regarding a potential abduction in a residential building in the Lac-Beauchamp area.

At the scene, a young girl reported that a stranger had held her and sexually assaulted her; one suspect was arrested later in the evening and remains in custody.

Police indicated that charges of kidnapping, sexual interference, and sexual assault with a weapon are being recommended.

The identity of the accused has not been disclosed in a press release issued on Friday.

The police added that they will not provide any additional information in order to protect the victim's identity in this case.
