Canada regained the lead in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying by winning 2-0 against its host Honduras.

Canada leads the final round of qualifiers with 19 points, one point ahead of the United States, and two points ahead of Mexico in third place.

The top three teams qualify directly for the finals in Qatar, while the fourth-placed team, currently Panama with 14 points, enters the intercontinental playoffs.

In San Pedro Sula, Daniel Maldonado gave Canada the lead by scoring an own goal in the 11th minute.

Jonathan David secured Canada's win in the 73rd minute with a brilliant touch past the goalkeeper.

Canada maintained its unbeaten record in nine matches in the final round of qualifiers, and faces a tough match against the United States in Hamilton.
