The Central Health Authority in Quebec confirmed that a woman gave birth outside a hospital in Drummondville, QC, after the mother arrived at the building and found the main doors closed.
The Health Authority said that staff heard noises outside Saint Croix Hospital early Tuesday morning and discovered the woman and her newborn.
Hospital spokesperson Kelly Forand explained that the hospital’s main doors are closed at night and access to emergency services is through another door in a different part of the building.
The Health Authority added that the security guard, who was working for a private agency, was dismissed from his job for failing to assist the woman.
The hospital said it will also improve signage on its doors so people know where to go, and reminded staff of the importance of explaining to parents in the future how to access the facilities.
Forand noted that the health authority has met with and supported the family, but will not provide any updates on their health.
