The police and Chloe Campbell's family are breathing a sigh of relief because the teenager was found safely, but many questions remain about her mysterious disappearance.
The 14-year-old Colorado girl disappeared after a high school football game on September 30 and was not seen for 10 days.
Boulder police said she was found safely on Monday afternoon at a house in Thornton, Colo. Investigators and the Campbell family initially thought she had run away from home.
Now, investigators are looking into other more serious possibilities and trying to piece together the events of the past ten days. Earlier, her parents claimed they received a disturbing photo of Chloe that looked "injured and sick." The photo was sent to the Campbells by an anonymous source who was concerned about the teenager's safety.
Officials were concerned and considered the girl "at risk" because she had no money and had also left her treatment. Her family said she is said to be taking medication for both physical and mental health issues.
On Tuesday, she was scheduled to undergo a medical examination and social services will also be involved in the investigation. But Stephen Redfern, Boulder Police Deputy Chief, said there is no evidence supporting the possibility that Chloe was held against her will or was at risk of harm. He said, "We do not believe at this time that she was held against her will." Police said the young woman showed no visible sign of injury when found. However, Redfern added that Chloe took "significant steps" to avoid contact with her frantic family and police who were searching for her.
Evidence gathered from social media by investigators and viewers over the ten days indicates that the girl was indeed alive and well. The police have not confirmed the identity of the house where she was found or who she was with. She was seen at the football game with two older men.
