Canada's Ministry of Environment announced late Saturday afternoon that Kirkland Lake, Englehart, Temiskaming Shores, and Timagami are under a severe thunderstorm warning.

The meteorologist said in a statement, "Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when an imminent thunderstorm is likely or one or more of the following occur:

Large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall."

"This severe thunderstorm is located 6 kilometers southeast of Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park, moving northeast at 45 km/h."

Potential hazards include heavy rainfall with localized amounts of 50 mm per hour, winds of 90 km/h, and nickel-sized hail. Affected areas include Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park, Lake Makobi, and Ossio.

The statement said, "The Fire Marshal's Office and Emergency Management recommend taking shelter immediately if the weather threat approaches."

"Heavy rains can cause flash flooding and water pooling on roads.

Large hail can damage property and cause injuries.

Strong gusty winds can throw loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches, and overturn vehicles."
