Not every day do we hear about the start of an investigation following an "incident" alleged to have occurred at a conference attended by all Canadian police chiefs and senior law enforcement leaders, but this is what happened in Quebec!.
The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police says it is currently cooperating with an investigation arising from an incident that occurred at its 117th annual conference at the Hilton Hotel in Quebec City from August 7 to 9.
Details of this investigation are scarce, so it is not known what caused the incident, but what has been revealed is the sudden departure of a senior officer in the specialized Toronto police unit, whom his subordinates say has been transferred from the role of commanding officer of that unit to respond to the Professional Standards unit of the service.
A source in the Toronto Police claimed that the officer in question was at work Tuesday "cleaning his office": "This language means that the person has been suspended from active duty."
The rest is a mystery and the subject of much speculation among the ranks. While it was difficult to get official confirmation from the Toronto Police Department that a senior leader at the supervisory level had been suspended, the CACP confirmed that there is an investigation into all that is alleged to have happened in Quebec.
