The explosions and 30-meter-high flames were part of a spreading fire that ignited part of the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver overnight.

Now, the Vancouver Police say the fire is considered suspicious and that the major crimes division is investigating the matter.

The Vancouver Police Department said in a press release on Sunday that patrol officers discovered the fire shortly after midnight and reported it to Vancouver rescue services.

Meanwhile, Assistant Fire Chief Brian Bertuzzi said fire crews responded to the fire in the northwest corner of the grounds at around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Adding, no one was on site at the time of the fire, and no firefighters were injured while extinguishing it.

On the other hand, the VPD says an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause, and the fire caused damage estimated at thousands of dollars, including nearly 20 cars that were parked in the area.

For his part, Bertuzzi said there was a high fuel load on site, including 500 liters of gasoline storage and high-pressure propane tanks.

He said that two Zampon residents and up to ten truck drivers were involved in the fire, which did not affect the lower part of the grounds where horses are bred.

Bertuzzi said, "It was a very large and explosive fire accompanied by many explosions and rising flames."

Adding, "The fire is now under investigation."
