Two nurses protesting wage restrictions by the "Ford" government were injured outside the provincial leaders' debate in Toronto on Monday evening, according to their union, as the Progressive Conservative leader "Doug Ford"'s bus arrived at the site.

Up to 200 registered nurses from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Healthcare gathered outside the TVO building in North York on Monday to protest the Ford government's bill that caps annual salary increases to below the inflation rate.

SEIU Healthcare spokesperson Angelica Cruz told CP24, "The nurses' peaceful demonstration was met with force as police cleared the way for Doug Ford before he got off his campaign bus, and it is unacceptable that one nurse was injured on the sidewalk while another was dragged on the asphalt."

Video clips and photos posted on social media from the scene show a man wearing a purple SEIU Healthcare shirt who appears to be pushed by a man wearing a blue suit and an earpiece.

The man was then seen face down on the road, writhing in pain, while another woman in a purple shirt was seen on the ground and appeared to have been dragged several times before she managed to get up.

The man who was on the ground was later taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of injuries reportedly including a concussion.

In a statement given to CP24 on Wednesday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) spokesperson Bill Dickson said members of the OPP Protective Services Division were at the debate to provide security for the leaders of the three main parties.

Dickson said, "Individuals were trying to access the facility where the debate was taking place" when police decided to intervene.

He said no charges have been laid in connection with the event, "For the safety of all attendees, individuals were removed, and during this time one fell to the ground.

The person was taken to hospital for assessment and was later released." "While the OPP respects everyone's rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, disruptive behavior can raise safety concerns at any time, and when individual behavior reaches a point where it becomes unsafe, police must intervene to restore public safety."

The Ford spokesperson reached by CTV News Toronto on Wednesday referred all inquiries to Toronto Police and the OPP, stating that they "do not comment on police operations."

Cruz told CP24, "We will not comment further until we explore all options with legal counsel." Toronto Police said their officers "did not use force at the scene, nor did they make any arrests."

The nursing sector in general is upset with the Ford government's Bill 124, which stops wage increases in most sectors.
