The US Federal Reserve raises interest rates by 25 basis points for the third consecutive month

After its meeting today Wednesday, the Monetary Policy Committee of the US Federal Reserve - the Federal Open Market Committee - decided to raise the US interest rate by 25 basis points for the third consecutive month, in line with market expectations, making the federal funds interest rate 5.25%.

The decision of the US Federal Reserve meeting for March came with the bank continuing to slow the pace of rate hikes with a recent moderation in US inflation, as the US Federal Reserve had reduced the rate increase to 25 basis points in the monthly meetings of February and March.

The US Federal Reserve sets short-term interest rates in the United States through its decision on the interest paid by banks to each other during overnight trading in exchange for borrowing reserves in case of a shortage of necessary reserves. This is the reserve interest rate.
