United States: We warned Russia about plans for terrorist attacks on large gatherings

The spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Council, Adrian Watson, confirmed that the United States had previously warned Russia about terrorist attacks.

Watson said – in a special statement to the American channel (Alhurra) today, Saturday, that "the United States exchanged information with Russian authorities earlier this month regarding plans of potential terrorist attacks in Moscow that may target large gatherings such as concerts," explaining that (Washington) took this step according to the internationally recognized policy of "duty to warn."

It is noted that the Russian Investigative Committee announced – earlier today – that more than 60 people were killed as a result of the terrorist attack that took place in the "Crocus" hall in the suburbs of Moscow, noting that the number of victims may rise due to critical injuries.

A statement from the Russian committee mentioned that the bodies of the dead are being examined, and it has been confirmed so far that more than 60 people were killed as a result of the terrorist attack, and the number of victims may increase due to critical cases among the injured.

On the other hand, the Russian presidency (the Kremlin) confirmed that the heads of the relevant security agencies briefed President Vladimir Putin on the developments of the terrorist attack at the concert hall in the "Crocus" complex in the suburbs of Moscow.

A statement from the Russian presidency said that the head of the Federal Security Service, the Minister of the Interior, the head of the Investigative Committee, and the Russian National Guard informed President Putin of the progress of the investigation into the terrorist attack at the concert hall in "Crocus," explaining that Putin held communications with the Governor of the (Moscow) region, Andrei Vorobyov, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, and Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, regarding the measures taken to assist the injured in the terrorist attack. The statement clarified that the Minister of Emergency Situations briefed President Putin on the procedures taken in rescue operations and providing all possible assistance to the victims.

Several world leaders expressed their condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the victims of the terrorist attack at the "Crocus City" entertainment and commercial center.

The Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent a condolence telegram to Putin, condemning the terrorist attack, according to the Russian news agency "TASS".

The Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also strongly condemned this criminal act and expressed his condolences and sympathy to the Russian president, the victims' families, and the Russian people.

For his part, European Council President Charles Michel condemned the attack on the Crocus City hall, expressing his condolences to the victims' families.

Michel wrote earlier on the social media site "X" Twitter, "I condemn the horrific terrorist attack in Moscow; the loss of innocent lives anywhere is a humanitarian tragedy, and our condolences go to the victims and their families."

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mohamed, expressed solidarity with Russia's government and people following the terrorist attack near Moscow.

Moussa wrote on "X," "I was shocked to learn about the horrific terrorist attack in Moscow, which claimed many victims. Our deepest condolences to the grieving families and solidarity with the people and government of the Russian Federation following this heinous attack which we strongly condemn."

The Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Helga Schmid, condemned the terrorist attack at the hall in Crocus City, writing on "X," "Terrible news from Crocus City hall in Moscow, our hearts are with the victims of the attack and their families. Such terrorist acts are detestable and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms."

Chinese President Xi Jinping also expressed his condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the victims of the terrorist attack, saying, according to the China Global Television Network (CGTN) today, Saturday, that China opposes all forms of terrorism and strongly condemns terrorist attacks.

The Chinese embassy in Russia reported that it had not received any reports so far about Chinese victims as a result of the attack, but it will continue to follow up on any developments in this regard.

Besides, the Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, confirmed his country's determination to proceed with Russia in their joint war against terrorism and cross-border extremism.

According to the Syrian news agency (SANA) today, this came during a condolence telegram sent by the Syrian president to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in which he expressed deep condolences for the victims of the terrorist attack that targeted the Crocus commercial complex in the suburbs of the Russian capital, Moscow, confirming his condemnation of all acts committed by terrorists involving bloodshed anywhere in the world.

Assad said that this cowardly attack targeting innocent civilians shows the complete failure to divert the Russian people from their principles and their adherence to their country's sovereignty and the independence of its decision.
