The conflict in Sudan has left 24 million people in need of food and other assistance, with only 2.5 million receiving aid due to the fierce fighting and lack of funding, according to two senior United Nations officials on Friday evening.
Additionally, Ted Chaiban, the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund and Edén Rossurno, the Director of Operations at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, painted a horrific picture of destruction and turmoil in Sudan, with no peace talks in sight.
They also warned that the fighting has plunged the region into a humanitarian catastrophe.
The ongoing conflict, which has lasted nearly four months, has resulted in the deaths of more than 3,000 people and injured over 6,000 others, according to the latest government figures released in June, but doctors and activists say the true toll may be much higher.
